Who this is between

These terms are between you — the business or person using our software — and The Technocrati, a technology business based in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. They cover our website at thetechnocrati.com and HQ, the desktop application we make for small businesses.

Using HQ or connecting a service to it means you accept these terms. If you do not, do not use it — and if something here is a problem for your business, email support@thetechnocrati.com and say so. We would rather hear it than have you agree to something that does not fit.

What HQ is, and what it is not

HQ is a desktop application that brings the things a small business checks every day into one place — email, weather, and cameras you choose to connect.

HQ is not a security or life-safety system. This matters and we will not bury it. It does not monitor your premises, it does not summon anyone, and nobody is watching it on your behalf. It shows you cameras you already own, through a service you already pay for, on a computer that may be switched off, asleep, installing updates, or without internet. Do not rely on it to tell you about an emergency. If you need monitored security, buy monitored security.

HQ is still being built. Features change, appear, and occasionally go away again. We will not pretend otherwise.

Your account, and your use of it

• Give accurate information when you create an account, and keep your sign-in details to yourself.
• Connect only accounts and cameras you are entitled to connect. If the cameras belong to a business, be the person allowed to make that decision.
• Do not use HQ to break the law, to watch people who have not agreed to be watched, or to work around the rules of a service you have connected.
• Do not attempt to break, overload, or reverse-engineer our systems. If you find a security flaw, tell us — we would far rather hear it from you than from somebody else.

Cameras carry a legal dimension we cannot handle on your behalf. Recording in certain places, or recording audio, is restricted in many states, and if your cameras cover an area where employees or the public are present you may owe those people notice. That responsibility is yours.

Services you connect

HQ connects to services you already have — your Ring account, your email provider. Those remain your accounts, governed by their terms, and we do not control them.

If Ring changes its rules, its prices, or its software, HQ’s camera features change with it and there is nothing we can do about that. Ring also requires an active Ring Protect plan or trial before any partner application can reach your devices. You can disconnect anything you have connected, at any time, from inside HQ or from the service’s own app.

Your data stays yours

Nothing you put into HQ becomes ours. We do not sell your information, we do not use your camera events to train anything, and we do not build a profile of you. What we hold, how long we hold it, and how to have it deleted is set out in full in the Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.

You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it at any time, and we will confirm when it is done. See Deleting your data.

Availability, and what we do not promise

We work to keep our servers running and we do not promise that they always will. There is no uptime guarantee. Maintenance happens, connections drop, and the services we connect to have outages of their own.

HQ and this website are provided as is. To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties of any kind — express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the fullest extent the law allows, The Technocrati is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, for lost profits or lost business, or for loss or damage arising from anything a camera did or did not show you. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us for the software in the twelve months before the claim.

Some places do not allow those exclusions. Where that is the case they do not apply to you, and you keep whatever rights your local law gives you.

Ending it

You can stop using HQ whenever you like, and ask us to delete your account. We may suspend or close an account being used to break these terms, to harm someone, or to attack our systems — and where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why first.

Changes, and the law that applies

We will update these terms as HQ grows. The date at the top of this page always says when it last changed. If a change materially affects you we will say so, rather than quietly reposting the page and hoping you re-read it.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
